Have Realistic Expectations

Determine who will Handle the WMS

Ensure you involve the team who will be responsible for your WMS. The Operations Department is the usual department that will handle the system. This is because they tend to be the systems’ final user after completing the implementation. Also, involve your IT team early on.

Plan when to Implementing the WMS

Think at least three to four years out as you plan to implement your WMS. For example, if you are fulfilling for retail in a single warehouse; however, planning to do e-commerce in the near future, make sure you understand how your business might change. This helps enable systems and technology requirements which will support your fulfillment capability.  

Don’t Miss Out on Important Project Components

These components usually include testing, training, and go-live. As your vendor begins to move more responsibility over to you, you will have to integrate this stage into project cost. Ensure you possess the resources and time for this transition. The majority of projects don’t succeed in this final phase because they do not carry out a thorough job on testing specific requirements. Failing to train resources thoroughly can result in the failure of the project after the WMS goes live.
